FAQs
What is the PHQ-2?
The PHQ-2 is a two-question pre-screen for depression. It asks about low interest and low mood over the past two weeks, each scored 0 to 3, for a total of 0 to 6.
What does a positive PHQ-2 mean?
A score of 3 or more is a positive screen. It does not mean you have depression, but it does mean a fuller assessment such as the PHQ-9, and a conversation with a clinician, is worthwhile.
Should I use the PHQ-2 or the PHQ-9?
The PHQ-2 is a fast first step. If it is positive, complete the PHQ-9, which grades severity and includes a question about thoughts of self-harm.
