eGFR Calculator (CKD-EPI 2021)
This estimates kidney filtration from a serum creatinine result, your age, and sex, using the 2021 race-free CKD-EPI equation. It applies to adults and is an estimate, not a diagnosis.
| Result | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 90 and above | G1 - Normal or high |
| 60 to 90 | G2 - Mildly decreased |
| 45 to 60 | G3a - Mild to moderate |
| 30 to 45 | G3b - Moderate to severe |
| 15 to 30 | G4 - Severely decreased |
| Below 15 | G5 - Kidney failure |

FAQs
What is eGFR and what does CKD-EPI 2021 mean?
eGFR is the estimated glomerular filtration rate, a measure of how well your kidneys filter blood, reported in mL/min/1.73 m squared. CKD-EPI 2021 is the current race-free equation recommended by the National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Nephrology, which estimates eGFR from serum creatinine, age, and sex.
What are the KDIGO kidney stages?
G1 is 90 or above (normal or high), G2 is 60 to 89 (mildly decreased), G3a is 45 to 59, G3b is 30 to 44, G4 is 15 to 29 (severely decreased), and G5 is below 15 (kidney failure). A reduced eGFR is staged as kidney disease when it persists or appears alongside other markers of kidney damage.
Can I enter my creatinine in micromoles per liter?
Yes. Switch the unit selector to micromoles per liter and the calculator converts it for you. Everything is computed in your browser, so your numbers never leave your device.
